Amaras Art Alliance and Hamazkayin-Boston are delighted to invite you, the Metro Boston’s music lovers, to a very unique concert. Unique because it celebrates with a musical concert the life of a monk who is mainly recognized as a contributor in the world of words— the inventor of the Armenian Alphabet, Saint Mesrop Mashtots.

The program will cover contemporary and medieval Armenian music including works by Mashtots himself.

Born 1650 years ago during an era when Christianity was taking root in Armenia, Mashtots was among the learned that helped the Armenian culture distinguish itself form the Greek and Persian cultures. His primary contribution being the development of the Armenian Alphabets which was the catalyst for a century long blossoming of Armenian literature, music and other art forms.

Mesrop Mashtots has a few musical works which he created in the service of his Faith. Violinist Sargis Karapetyan who has been collecting and working with ancient and midlevel Armenian compositions for many years will lead a quintet in this performance.

For his great deeds and accomplishments Mesrop Mashtots was canonized by the Holy Apostolic Church of Armenia.
