On Sunday, November 9, 2014 the Boston Community was served with an exceptional style of Armenian folk music. Ms. Lilit Pipoyan who has visited the New England region quite infrequently appeared on stage at St. James Armenian Church, Charles Mosesian Cultural & Youth Center – Keljik Hall– 465 Mt. Auburn St. in Watertown, Massachusetts. The program began with a performance by the students at the Erebouni Dance School and Ensemble. This concert was co-sponsored by Hamazkayin-Boston.
Lilit Pipoyan, musician, singer, composer and an architect, was born in Yerevan, Armenia to a family of artists. She schooled at the Spendiaryan and Melikyan music institutions and holds a PhD degree in the Theory and History of Armenian Architecture. She sings an uncommon folklore using modern as well as traditional Armenian poems. A guitar in her arm or at the piano, she gives the poetry a melody that is original while at once memorably ancient. Ms. Pipoyan is a stage performer, usually appearing in a “one woman” show. She has produced four CD’s one of them with legendary Rouben Hakhverdian.
Erebouni Dance School is a project of Hamazkayin-Boston, teaching the fundamentals of the “Art of Dance” in a structured manner to our children. Artistic Director and instructor Arman Mnatsakanyan is a graduate of Armenian State School of Dance, Yerevan and has studied at the State Pedagogical University’s dance department as well. In 1995 he joined the “Friendship” State Dance Ensemble, where he became one of the premier soloists, performing in many countries. He is the founder/artistic director of the “Golden Age” Dance Ensemble which has won numerous awards and medals.
