Momorial concert- Tribute to Aram Ghrabekian- October 4
“A man with a simple baton, but a great talent who left an even greater legacy…”
observed Heghinar Melkomian on January 13, 2014 in RAG Mamoul of Armenia, about this beloved son of New England. Article as it appeared in Asbarez.com
A longtime resident of Lexington, Massachusetts as well as Boston, Gharabekian graduated from Boston and New England Conservatories, receiving a Masters of Music degree in composition. He went on to found and direct the SinfoNova Chamber Orchestra of Boston in the 1980’s, establishing a loyal following among classical music aficionados and critics. “He knows how to inspire an orchestra to give him what he wants…” wrote Richard Dyer, former Chief Music Critic of the Boston Globe.
Many of Mr. Gharabekian’s friends and colleagues in the community who cared deeply about him and his work came together to present a memorial concert to celebrate his life and artistry. This remembrance event took place on Saturday, October 4, 2014 at 8:00 PM at the Edward M. Pickman Hall of the Longy School of Music in Cambridge. This was a free concert with all participating musicians contributing their time and talent.
Several Boston-based cultural organizations pledged their support for this undertaking. Please see the Program Book for more details.
