In 2003 we joined forces with three other organizations (*) to celebrate the Centennial of composer Aram Khachatouryan, part of a global program and a UNESCO Celebrant.
Since then we have celebrated the 140th birth day of Komitas as well as his 150 birth anniversary and the 85th birth anniversary of singer Hovhannee Badalian and author Hagop Karapent. The latter two are also memorialized with Scholarship Funds within Amaras [see menu bar]
on Saturday, February 18, 2012 we celebrated the 90th birthday of composer Edwatrd Mirzoyan . He passed away in October of the same year. In the summer of 2012 we marked the 1650 birth anniversary of Mesrop Mashtots, the inventor of the Armenian Alphabets, in cooperation with Hamazkayin-Boston.
2013 was the year of the 300th Birth Anniversary of troubadour Sayat Nova. We celebrated this occasion on October 6, 2103 in partnership with Sayat Nova Dance Company of Boston with a free program.
Maestro Aram Gharabekian, educated in Boston, directed SinfoNova Chamber Orchestra of Boston then went to Armenia and led its National Chamber Orchestra (NCOA) for almost a decade. He passed away in 2014. Friends of Aram with the support of several organizations memorialized him in a free Tribute Concert on October 4, 2014 at the Longy School of Music in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
Was known primarily for his interpretations of music by Franz Liszt and Alan Hovhaness. He was a great friend of the Armenian community.
