Our Missionis is to create opportunities for people to get involved in culture, observe and enjoy the traditions and customs of our diverse communities and help keep our society vibrant...

And we invite you to join us on this voyage

To fulfill our mission we organize events, activities and programs in the sphere of arts and education

  • Our programming is as diverse as are the people in the alliance, yet the core remains dedicated to the performing arts with a keen focus on children: from young to the youth.
  • And while we embrace the beauty and charm of all cultures, our spotlight is on the heritage of the Armenian and American people

What does Amaras mean?

Amaras is the name of an old Armenian monastery located in Nagorno Karabakh. It is among the world’s oldest Christian monuments and is the place where the inventor of the Armenian alphabet, St. Mesrob Mashtots, founded a school. The monastery is located near the town of Soss in the Martuni region. Amaras was established in the 4th century by the legendary St. Gregory the Illuminator.

The Amaras Art Alliance was founded in 1990, and is a non-profit 501C3 organization based in Watertown, Massachusetts.

Originally named Armenian Art Alliance, the purpose of the organization was to promote Armenian artists including performers, visual artists, writers and musicians in the United States. One year after the establishment of Amaras the Republic of Armenia declared her independence form the Soviet Union which lifted travel restriction and soon talented and creative individuals began to travel between the US and Armenia. In 2000 the Art Alliance was renamed Amaras to reflect the reality of the cultural dialogue taking place at an international level and among Armenian and non Armenian artists.

Today, Amaras Art Alliance is the premiere organization working with professional artists and musicians as well as young aspiring performers using music, dance, dramatic theatre and the visual arts to exchange ideas and expressions between cultures.
