please note: tickets at the door will be $30

“Improvisational Armenian tar player, composer and vocalist creating a distinctive sound in jazz and world music. He melds tar into multigenre compositions in both solo and group performances pushing the boundaries of Armenian music.”
from Miqayel’s website

Dear friends:

Miqayel Voskanyan is visiting Boston to participate in Silkroad Global Musician Workshop at the New England Conservatory. He plays the Tar, an 11-string long-necked string instrument from the lute family used by many cultures and countries including Armenia, Iran, Turkey, and Georgia.

His MVF Band in Armenia draws on polyphonic roots, global rhythms, jazz’s tight grooves, and improvisational play, and includes bass, keyboards, percussion and other traditional Armenian wind instruments, sax or clarinet.

The MVF Boston Band features the following musicians:

Miqayel Voskanyan – Tar and singing

Maxim Lubarsky – piano/keyboards

Shahan Nercessian – bass

Martin Haroutunian – folk instruments formerly in MusAner

Alek Surenian – percussionist with Armadi Tsayn
